Surprise!

A few days ago I received a package from Cat over at Egg in My Pocket! Cat was kind enough to hold a contest over at her blog and I was one of the lucky winners!

When I opened the package I was very happy to find some fluff and some yarn.

The fluff was wonderfully soft and came in a yellow/red color. Cat wrote that it could be used for either spinning or felting. Since I currently do not know how to do either I am excited because I now have the materials to learn. I have an old spinning wheel and a friend that is willing to teach me – can’t wait to give it a try.

The yarn is a “Mystery” blend that is very handsome and even has a few strands of glittery tinsel included. Cat tells me that she sent enough to make a scarf or a hat, so now I have to learn to knit too. I was planning on learning, and now I have the product to get me started.

This is my first post posted under the Wool label, the first of many to come.

One more surprise, last night we got another 8 inches of snow! The grand total for this Winter so far is 35 inches, looks like it is going to be a long one.

Oooooh….perhaps you'd like some llama fleece in the spring? She'll get her first shearing since she's been here with me then. Of course, it would just be raw fleece right off Kai llama – not sure if you know where to start with that. lol But she sure has pretty, chocolate brown fiber.35 inches of snow already?? OMG. Fortunately, you still seem in pretty good spirits…so far. You and snow…me and mud. We'll muddle through this winter together, eh?:-)

  2. Oh my goodness, that snow!!! Please do not send it east to me! I dislike snow very much! That's pretty cool that you're going to learn to knit and spin. I used to knit when I was a teen. Didn't do much with knitting. Then in my 20's and 30's I learned to crochet, and I made many a project – scarves, blankets, afghans, dishclothes, hotpads, etc. I love crocheting and wish I had more time to do it! ~Lynn

FarmGirl, I would love some raw llama fleece! I am going to have plenty of raw sheep wool so I am going to need to learn how to process it anyhow. Hmm, seems like I have a lot of learning to do this year.Lynn, I think that the knitting will go hand in hand with the snow – more inside time with nothing but blog surfing to keep me occupied.Elizabeth, I sure hope its fun otherwise I am going to be in trouble.

I am so happy you liked it. I know I have a lot of fun knitting, and spinning… I haven't tried felting *intentionally*, although the bottom of my wool socks could be arguement against that. Enjoy!Cat

Wow, what a wonderful surprise! I love to knit, what fun you have ahead of you. I think it's perfect for the weather you are having, too. Which reminds me, I have a lot of knitting to do… I'd better go! :)-Mary

  10. Wow what a nice prize. I would love to learn to spin yarn. I am trying to re-teach myself to knit. I am having a hard go, because I do crochet and can get projects together faster without the learning curve. And at this time of year I have a deadline…Christmas.

TJL, I need to learn – the only thing stopping me is time, I don't have as much as I used to.
