    We have had plenty of rain instead of snow,so not to much worry on a drought.Hoping you get some precipitation to increase your water table.

  2. This seems to be a strange winter everywhere. No rain here since Nov.17th, and none predicted in the next 7 days. Last year my pastures were flooded, there was so much rain plus snow in the Sierras the river near here was over it's banks in some areas. By now my pasture grass should be close to a foot tall, all I have right now is bone dry dirt. And, the price of hay is $17 – $20 a bale. Won't be a good year unless we get some rain soon.

  3. Is this not normal for you? And are droughts?? That would be awful…. though I can't begin to imagine that scenario!

  4. Kim says:

    Wow, that's a big difference. I'm hoping our drought last year won't be a repeat.

    You betcha I am! I can dig into our clay soil right now, and it is crumbly dry. We need a lot of snow cover, slow melt, and/ or a very wet spring. Time to get out and do a couple of snow dances…slightly different from the typical happy dance. :-}

    Farmer – If you could send some rain our we I would appreciate it. We are expecting a few days of brutal, brutal cold, and that may bring more immediate deep soil freezing problems.Tombstone – I read many blogs this year where folks were lamenting the price of hay, if this Winter continues to have little to no precipitation there could be big trouble brewing.Homeschool – I haven't lived in Minnesota for long but I can't imagine a drought in the land of 10,000 lakes! Last years snow was excessive, but it is a lot closer to normal than this years meager amounts.Kim – Drought is a horrible thing, the helpless feeling that surrounds it is debilitating. Ian – I will send the Commander out to do the snow dance, I hope the dogs don't bite him too hard.

    I am certainly worried about it. We've been very dry since the first part of July.

  8. Cat says:

    Yep, looks like here. We joke that Cordova, AK is getting all our snow… Cat

  9. Chai Chai says:

    and you grow your own hay as well, I'm hoping everyone gets a little precip soon!

    When I saw how much snow they were getting I thought they were joking, I can't even imagine 18 FEET of snow!
