This was completely overgrown woodland two years ago.
The pasture grass is just starting to peak through this year, I have high hopes it will be long enough to graze in early June.
It is supposed to rain tonight and then get up into the 60’s – just perfect for grass to grow!
This was complete forest last year. The Commander threw down some seed before Winter and it looks like it took in some places. Note the number of stumps and branches that still need to be cleared out.
The Commander tilled the garden area Sunday. The chickens loved it and picked through the many worms that were exposed.
The soil was pretty pitiful looking last year but a Winters worth of goat compost has done it a world of good. The soil actually is a rich dark blackish brown color. I can’t wait to plant something.
The Commander has 90 fence posts, 30 cattle panels, 5 gates, and 2 roles of field fence to set into place this Spring.
The old tarp shed was removed this weekend as well. Grass seed that was spread last year seems to be taking, this small area may be useful later in the Summer.
Several of the trees in here are dead because the rams ate all the bark off from them. The Commander will cut them down when he gets a chance. There will definitely be fewer leaves on the ground this year.
I’m expecting baby goats on Friday or Saturday, hopefully this pasture area will be ready when they are weaned.
